Fat Face urban downhill nite race report.

Credit to www.olivercoatsphotography.co.uk for this picture.

What an event this was!! Adam and I went up to race in Scarborough last weekend and had an incredible time. The track was right in the centre of Scarborough town riding downhill from the castle and in to the marina at the bottom of the hill. The course was brilliant compromising of lots of steps, some manmade wooden jumps, a mega-fast tarmac section followed by more steps and a drop to the finish.

Adam at full knacker!

How did we do? Well I took 20th in hardtail (no training, no fitness, no crashes, I am happy) and Adam took none other than 1st place in hardtail. Impressive stuff, especially when you consider that there was a large collection of sponsored and even professional riders who he beat in the process to his winning time of 1:21.833. There should be a lot of team managers scratching their heads as to how an unsponsored rider has beaten their entire race team who ride downhill for a living on their expensive factory bikes whilst Adam made do with a Trek bruiser with Max Daddy 1.85" tyres!! Also a big shout out to Rich Batey who took the Senior 19-29 win with a time of 1:16.751 on his Orange 224 evo.

Batey flying.

The final night time runs were eventually cancelled due to the terrible weather and following a big crash in the final set of steps the course was closed due to being considered unsafe to ride. I heard a guy fractured his skull on some metal railings! All in all though, a brilliant event. Good track, good atmosphere dispite the weather, good results for DBMX.co.uk team and a good night out to follow. Definitely one for next year i think!

Gallery coming soon!

Racing, trophies and crashes

Another good day for the DBMX crew, this time at bulwell the BMX track that has beaches for berms. The track had been recently re-surfaced but without the needed rain it was just like a beachL. 1st straight had been changed with a super huge speed bump. Although I only jumped the 2nd straight completely a couple of times it was ACE, the lips felt mint and just kicked you into space.

As always everyone was flying round the track as that’s all DBMX know how to do, but unfortunately Mr Teeth had a crash during practice done his bicep in and will be out for a couple of weeks even though he still raced 3 motos and didn’t place last in any of them. Diko’s training had paid of as he was placing in each of his motos and also racked up his 1st win. Me, Carr and Woodward were all in the same category 17+, this would be fun although I was a bit nervous you’ve just got to get on with it although when your first gate in 17+ has got, TJ, Yearsley, Raz, Carr, and a few other big names the nerves start to kick in again 7th out of 7 not bothered though. Jonny won his 1st moto and him and adam proceeded to the A final while I enjoyed the B yet again got the holeshot but after that it went tits up.

The youth of DBMX did rather well too, Ginner won all his moto’s and I think his final. Brad, Grant and Davis also did well although brad needs to learn to clip in on the gateJ. Tommy lee was annihilating his competition placing in all of his races including one of his moto’s when he got a puncture going round the track.

The 2008 series trophies were awarded with a free super small tee shirt for me and Adam from route55 bmx training.

Adam Carr: 2008 17+ champion
Jon Woodward: 2008 15+ champion
Chris Kellett: 2008 3rd place cruiser
Carl Dixon: 2008 4th place cruiser

LET’S DO THIS!!!!!!

I have had word from Ian (the man with the money) that the track will be getting done from the 18th of September providing we get the club official, it will cost £8.25 each if 10 of us pay and we know there’s more than 10 people in the club, by getting the club official we get a free race license and insurance for riding on our track. There will be a meeting with Ian, Rich Camm and us sometime after the 18th about 4pm so we can discuss ideas, once the layout has been decided it is final. Also there is some money to hold our 1st race which will be an open event. I will also be asking Kelvin Batey to come down and give his opinion on the design.

SO GET YOUR ASSES IN GEAR, AND GET YOUR MONEY TOGETHER.

SNAP N GO

Great weather for ducks, never mind racing

Rotherham – 6/7/08

While sitting on the gate, normally the old Guinness advert runs through my head "tick followed tock followed tick followed tock followed tick..." But in my final all I could think of was getting my snap right without getting a splash in the face from the puddle that had formed under the gate.

Apart from the rain everyone seemed to have a good race:

- Carl Dixon finally seems to be getting over his fear of the track – 5th in final
- Adam Carr won all of his motos but got some stiff competition in the final – 3rd in final
- I had good event with 3rd 2nd 2nd and 3rd in the final
- Jordan Latta is getting a lot better at racing and moving through the pack really well – 4th overall
- Jordan Smith although suffering a bad back says he should of done better – 6th overall
- Returning racer Grant raced novice and killed it taking 1st place overall

Bring on sheffield

"Go big or go home"

Some great summer type shots here of a recent bowl session. Same as usual. Adam doing what he does best. These shots really sum up the scene best at Doncaster I think. Adam flying high out of the hips, and everyone else with there jaw's on the floor not daring to drop in incase of an embarrassment in front of the "master".

What I think people forget is that for every extra drop in to the bowl, every extra jump, its another little bit more practice and another little bit better. There is only one way to end up like this on a bike and that is through lots and lots of practice. Something that I know certain other riders have realised and have embraced. I can only be jealous that I don't have the time to do the same.

The Doncaster track may not be a Chesterfield, Mansfield or Harworth. And the Bowls might not be Devonshire Green or Sprotborough, but it is a decent place to ride for a giggle. I remember back in the day saying..."wouldn't it be mint if they built a bmx track nearby like the one in Harworth" and the reply would be "Yeah, never happen though". How wrong we were.

Does anyone else fancy writing something, I ain't got a clue what i'm talking about.

Back in my day....

There comes a time when you have to look back at the past to see where you've got to in life and today is that time. I was speaking to Chris the other day and we were talking about old times and thought we should have an old skool album in the gallery. So click the above image (or HERE) to see the gallery which goes all the way back to 2001. The days when messing on the Alverly steps was all it took to put a smile on your face, until the landlord decided to give chase! I've picked my favorites from the ol' days, ones that I think sum up the era. Enjoy!

DBMX News and Blog.

Lots of changes happening behind the scenes on the site. If you find anything that doesnt work, post in the forum on the relevant thread. We are now using a blogger site to run the main content (Makes my job a lot easier and also will allow members to post news directly and also remotely by email)

I dunno whats going on BMX wise, no news from Jonny! There's a big ride out planned for this saturday for anyone interested (bmx and mtb). Visit the forum for more information.

Mansfield Report.

Mansfield! Well the race day has been fun. Lots of riders, seems as though it was a inter regional (midlands/east midlands) and I have to give it to them they were fast. Was a very good day, everyone was a bit tired, seems it was 25 degrees and there was alot of national numbers 1 to 10 in every catagory. Also Jordan Smiths first race in expert and Jordan Lattas first ever and went straight into expert. We have a gallery page up now which you can see by clicking HERE. Every one from the dbmx area did good though:

Carl Dixon, B final, 2nd.
Chris Kellet, A final, 3rd.
Jordan Latt, A final, 6th.
Jordan Smith, B final, 1st.
Adam Carr, B final, 4th.
Charlotte Woodward (nov), A final, 6th.
Jon Woodward, A finals, 2nd.

Overall a very good day, keep it up dbmx :D
